Property Offences

Property offences relate (in a very broad sense) to the unlawful taking of property belonging to another. Or the dishonest application of the property to the offender’s use.

Common examples of property offences including stealing and breaking and entering. They can also include, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and fraud offences

Property offences can start at the most trivial, such as the theft of groceries from a supermarket. They continue right through to the most serious examples, such as complex corporate fraud.

In the latter instance, law enforcement authorities will often expend significant resources and time (such as the engagement of forensic accountants), to investigate the crime. In these matters, it is often necessary for the defence to retain their own forensic experts. These professionals help to identify and counter the assumptions that have been relied upon to prosecute the offender.
